  • The Eiffel Tower dominates the skyline of Paris and one can see it almost from every corner of the city. I would not say it is a must see in Paris as I know there is hardly any fool who needs to be inspired to go and see this masterpiece architecture. It was built By Gustav Eiffel for the world fair of 1889. It is 300 meters tall (1000 feet) and has a weight of about 9,700 tons. It is one of the tallest structures in the world.

On one side of the tower is a huge garden and on the other face is the street. The garden is generally crowded with tourists but for onc in life perhaps crowd hating people would not mind it. It deserves to be crowded. One can climb up the tower on payment of some fees around 15 euros, but I did not do so because climbing up buildings and towers have never impressed me. Further, there is a huge huge queue of people waiting to go up there and unless you are really desperate to spend one whole day in the beautiful Paris waiting to climb up the tower, I don't think there is a point. But ofcourse people appreciate beauty of Paris from the top of the tower and it really depends on one's preferences.

  • By dusk, the lights on the Eiffel Tower starts glittering and its a nice view once again, quite different from the day or the night beauty of the tower.

Eiffel Tower: Eiffel Tower at night

  • The Eiffel tower looks beautiful at night. Thousands of lights glitter on it making it look like dream. When one is in Paris, I suggest one must go to see the tower once at day and once at night (preferably be there before dusk and see the transition). Believe me, it looks awesome. The second picture was taken at a park near the tower where due to the rain during the day, there was some water and the reflection of the tower in it looked so beautiful.

Arc de Triomphe: L'ARC DE TRIOMPHE

  • Arc de Triomphe stands in the middle of the busiest street in Paris Champs Elysees and is a beautiful monument. Inside the arch the names of heroes who fought for France and for Napoleon, are engraved and also includes the tomb of the unknown soldier. Designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806 and commissioned after Napoleon's victory at Austerlitz, it was only completed in 1836. The monument is 51 meters in height and 45 meters in width. One can climb up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and have a glance at the beauty of the busy Paris city. The monument stands in the middle of a crossing connecting 12 streets.

Things To Do: Statue of Liberty in France

  • The original Statue of liberty huge in size, was created by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi and was a gift from France to the US, that the citizens of the latter till date proudly claim to be their national symbol. There is a miniature replica of this statue in Paris on an island in river Seine that was presented to the city of Paris by the Parisian community of the USA. I had never read about this in any book but while going through the map of Paris while I was there I saw a small symbol that looked like statue of liberty to me and my curiosity took me there. I walked there (quite a walk) from the RER C stop Kennedy radio France. If one takes a boat trip one might even photograph the eiffel tower and the statue of liberty on single shot and that is definitely interesting. Recommendable

  • Napoleon's Tomb is situated at the Hôtel des Invalides. Napoleon did not die in France. His coffin was later brought there and placed inside this Dome Church. Inside the crypt in the centre of the Dome Church, there is a sarcophagus, inside which the emperor's remains are kept protected by six concentric coffins.

To avoid stalkers in Paris, my advice is to use the Velib' bikes instead of walking. (See the General Tips on my Paris page for details: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/740f5/18308/1/)
