The City of Dreams

by Rupanworld - last update: Sep 30, 2008

What else? The Tour Eiffel
As the name of my page suggests, I have always dreamt of visiting Paris one day. The beautiful, enchanting, captivating Paris. My dream came true in the summer of 2008 when I went to stay in the south of France for a little more than 3 months. On one of those weekends I made my way to the dream city, was there for a short time but came back with tons of memories, both good and bad, rather I should be saying worse. But the bottomline remains, I LOVE PARIS, JE T'AIME ENCORE.
Arc de Triomphe
One of the highlights of my travel interest has been the desire to travel alone. I have always done so. If I am travelling with my family, I would be definitely happy, but if not, then I prefer being alone on my trips, sleeping less, travelling more, spending time with the local people instead of spending time trying the expensive food joints, exploring the unknown lanes and by-lanes, instead of spending just too much time taking photos of monuments that I have grown up seeing. At Paris, it was no exception. But then, Paris was the only city where I ever came across any trouble because of being alone and for some time, I was really afraid. For details, see 'warnings and dangers' tips. Yet another bad memory from the trip was the turbulences on the flight on way back from Paris to Marseille. None of my other trips has ever been filled with so many bad memories, but given a choice, I would again make that trip to the dream city, for the sheer pleasure of being there.
Outside Napoleon's Tomb
At Paris, I ended up being the worst dressed tourist ever. When I started from Aix, the weather forecast had said it would be very warm out there in Paris, no rains. I had packed the lightest cloth I had, but then, I was in for a shock. It was raining all through the first day and the chilly wind made it too cold. My white trousers got stained with mud, my light clothes failed to keep me warm and what more, my old umbrella, that I thought would hardly be of any use in the warm weather, gave way and failed to protect me from the rain. I was wet, I was cold and I was dirty, but Paris was still beautiful. And hey you guys that have visited Paris on good sunny days, do you have any idea of how beautiful the city looks when it rains??? :)
The second day was really sunny and warm and I loved both sun and rain in Paris.

To avoid stalkers in Paris, my advice is to use the Velib' bikes instead of walking. (See the General Tips on my Paris page for details: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/740f5/18308/1/)
