Shillong Travel Guide: 76 reviews and 302 photos
The beautiful city of Shillong is also termed as “The Scotland of the East”. Situated at a height of 5,000 feet, it has a very pleasant climate and picturesque beauty. Tall pine trees, small hillocks, zig zag roads going up and down inside the city and incessant greenery makes Shillong a unique place. There are some beautiful waterfalls like Spread Eagle falls, Elephant Falls, Beadon Falls etc. falling down from tall hills. There are some beautiful sights also like the Ward’s Lake, Lady Hydari Park with a zoo and a beautiful Golf Course.

It would be a deep insult to the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo custom to say that the husband changes his surname after marriage. NO. He retains his mother's 'kur' or 'title' until death. His children, take the surname or 'kur' or clan name of their mother.
