D-town rocks! Düsseldorf is a great place to live and is very close to have it all. More than anything it is very lively. It seems like there is always a little festival going on; Japanese, French, Turkish day. And every weekend the Alt stadt (Old Town) is like a festival of it's own, for no particular reason, as it appears.People are stadning all over the street, talking, smiling, drinking beer, breaking glass(!!!?), it's pretty hard to get your way though there! :-)
The most bizarre thing though must be all the bachelor's parties in this area. How many people can possibly get married in this town!!?? They can be seen every night, and they all follow the same pattern. 1 man/ woman in funny dress (the husband/wife-to- be) and then 10 friends that wears the same t-shirt especially made for this night; selling wierd stuff, ask you to cut a whole in their outfit for 50 cents to 5 euros (of course, some pieces covers up parts more private, and is therefore more expensie than others....) ETC.
Düsseldorf is a very diverse society and a lot of people from all over the globe lives here. (Though it seems the Japanese, Turkish and Americans are slightly more well represented.) This makes the city even more alive. It also brings along a lot of great food. And it's cheap. Like the beer.
One more thing to love about this town is the great sense of fashion. It's rock n roll!!!! AND the main designer city of Germany. Very creative. Very fun. Especially for a girl like me, coming from IKEA-land. :-) The rockers are well represented in my favourite bar, the "Shaukel Stülchen" (i.e "the Rocking chair") while fancy designer's outfits and suits can be seen in white limousines in the harbour. Once again, D-dorf is a diverse place.
I don't know much about the rest of this country, but I know one thing: D-town rocks, man!!! |
