General Information. | Picture of the Faroese island, Koltur. |
The Faroe Islands are 18 small islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. The Faroe Islands belong to Denmark and are a part of the Danish Monarchy. Of the 18 Faroese islands 17 are inhabited, though some have less than 10 inhabitants. There are approx. 50.000 people living in the Faroe Islands at the moment, 18.000 of these live in the capital, Tórshavn. The language spoken on the Faroe Islands is Faroese, and also everyone knows Danish and English. The Faroese language is one of the Nordic languages and looks some what like Icelandic and Norwegian in writing. The nature of the Faroe Islands is very hilly and green. There are mountains and valleys everywhere, and the grass on the mountains is green all year round. There are not a lot trees on the Faroe Islands, only in peoples garden and plantations. The weather on the Faroe Islands is very unpredictable. It can in one single days vary from sun to rain to fog to wind. And this is all year round, though the summers are nicer than winter.
The Faroe Islands are defiantly worth a visit! |
