Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Tacoma may be best known for it's Narrows Bridge. Tacoma lies on the East side of southern Puget Sound. On the other side of a narrow place on the sound lies Gig Harbor.

The narrows was bridged on July 1st, 1940, but construction proved faulty, and during a windstorm on Nov 7th the bridge disintegrated and fell down.

It was bridged again on Oct 14th, 1950. That bridge was well engineered and constructed, and it survives to this day. However traffic has increased so much that a second bridge is being built.

Tacoma Veteran's Memorial

Near the East (Tacoma) end of the narrows bridge is Tacoma's Veterans' Memorial Park. It memorializes all Tacomans who served for our country. The bell is from the USS Tacoma.
