Welcome to Karlsruhe
4th European VT-meeting – Karlsruhe / Germany

May 30th to June 1st, 2008

After 3 Euromeetings in Southern Europe it’s finally time to go up north. And what city would be more appropriate to host a VT-meeting than the place where this great website has been invented: Karlsruhe / Germany.

Most of you will know VT as a company located in Los Angeles. But there have been times when VT was still an idea of two students of the University of Karlsruhe. They developed the software and together with an American entrepreneur they transformed it into a successful website with members all over the globe. So let’s have a trip down memory lane and come to the place where it all started.

Besides being the cradle of VT, Karlsruhe offers a lot of possibilities for a nice vacation. Even though the city isn’t known as a major tourist spot, it has some interesting sites and is also a perfect base for trips to places like Heidelberg, the Black Forest, the Alsace region with the picturesque city of Strasbourg and so on. See the 'What to see in and around Karlsruhe'-album on the bottom of this page.

The weekend for the meeting has been carefully chosen. In order to keep airfares and rooms affordable we had to consider school vacations, possible trade fairs and in particular the European Football Championship in Switzerland and Austria. As the meeting is now only one week before the opening match at Basel, football fans can combine these two events.

We will add more information to this site in the coming months. In the albums at the bottom of this page you will find info about accommodation, transportation, sightseeing tips, answers to frequently asked questions and the meeting schedule. So have a look at this site every now and then and if you decide to attend the meeting register yourself in the
meeting and events calendar.

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Karlsruhe

Your organization team

Andrea (Jadefrau)
Bernd (Bernd_L)
Christine (tini58de)

(the ABC-Squad)

Still a week to go - and they still smile.....

The ABC Squad

The ABC Squad is actually an ABCH Squad, but Heinz (VT member Madschick) likes to stay in the background! Well, we do meet from time to time, we have email contact and talk on the phone quite frequently - but the most enjoyable part definitely is the meeting part!!!

We do try to get things organized as soon as possible, but there are many odds at this early stage!

As time progresses we will be able to give more detailed information on what we plan and how things will be organized, but we do count on you as experienced travelers as well!

Please do check this website from time to time,
so that you will be informed of any news here!

.

Be sure to order your badge!

Ricky52 has once again volunteered to be our "badge master", so that we will have a chance to find out who is who!

He usually sends an email to everybody signing up, asking for your name and some other information he needs to make your personal badge.

Please be sure to answer his email
- or in case you did not receive one, just contact him!

Ricky, thanks a lot for doing this!

.
Thanks so much, PJ !

Participants from all over the world

.
We are happy that so many people have already signed up for the meeting and we do hope that you will be able to participate when the actual date comes closer!

To give you a first hand impression where people come from, we have added the home countries of the participants (actually the countries of current residence!) to the Euromeet2008 travel map - and we are proud that this map is very blue already!!!

When you open our world map, you will see different numbers () - this is the number of participants from the respective country. What I did was that added some random pictures of Karlsruhe in the travelogues according to the number of participants attending from that particular country. This will give us all a nice overview of how many people will come from which country and at the same time it gives everybody a chance to get a glimpse of what Karlsruhe is like.....

.

Some Fun Statistics!

So far we have

* 139 participants
* from 24 different countries
* from 5 continents
* TOP4 countries with the most participants:
...Germany (33), USA (20), UK (19) and the Netherlands (16)
* number of princesses attending: 1
* number of dogs attending: 1
