"Beauty of Eastern Europe" Krakow by pdxmatt

Krakow was one of the few cities not bombed in WWII, and it shows. You really get a feeling for how old thing are in this city. I'm sure many people will disagree with me, but I think that Krakow is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Krakow is also a great jumping off for some heavely visited tourist spots, mainly Auschwitz and Nowa Hunta the old communist steelwork town.

Rynek - Krakow Center

Karkow's core is an impressive and fun town center. Lined with restaurants, churches, and gift shops. The building in the center of the square used to be an old market, but now just sells a lot of junk. Ok I admit I did buy a chess board here. On the south side of the square you can find two good internet cafes for your surfing pleasure.

The Old Cemetery

One quarter of Krakow's population used to be Jewish. As most people most of the Polish Jews died at the hands of the Nazis, but what most people don't know is that persecution of Jews continued even after the war was over. Most Jews trying to return to Krakow after the war were either killed or run out of town by the Polls. There are many interesting/moving Jewish monuments, and a good sized part of town that is still known as the Jewish section, but only about 200 actual Jews live in Krakow.
