Restaurant Name: Giouras Taverna
Go to the back of the restaurant to have a candle-lit dinner on the beach as you listen to the waves gently lap the shore. Or stay inside to watch a Greek wedding party celebrate with loud traditional music and dancing!
Giouras is the place to be in Paralia. It is one of those restaurants that you can go back to day after day because the menu is so varied that you can eat something different every day of the week.
The waiters are extremely friendly and they serve a free shot of Ouzo to start off your meal...and sometimes a couple more snuck in during the meal :)
The price compared to several of the other restaurants around is a bit lower and the portions are more generous. The meals are well worth the price they charge and you are guaranteed not to leave hungry!
A fresh fruit dessert (with traditional sweets thrown in every once in a while) is served after every meal.
Favorite Dish: If you want to try a special Greek dish, I would recommend what I think is called Papoutsaki which is eggplant (aubergine) stuffed with ground meat, spices, and topped with cheese. It is delicious!
For starters, order up a Greek salad (tomatoes, onions, cucumbers), tzaziki (yogurt with cucumber & garlic), Florini peppers (grilled red peppers marinated in olive oil and vinegar), and scumbie (mackeral in olive oil and vinegar)!
For seafood, the lavraki (sea bass) is very nice as well as the fried calamari or grilled octopus.
Try Ouzo, the traditional Greek drink. We like to do shots but the traditional method of drinking is with ice.
