the scent of lemons

Acireale is situated about 30 miles north of Catania. The town itself is very compact(not small)and well proprtioned. We had a small villa on a farm just outside of town,in the village of Scillichenti. The main production was lemons and olives. The aroma in the mornings as the sun came up is indescribable. Lazy days on the terrace with local rough red wine, cheese and bread. Off the beaten track,
Acireale has the appearance of quiet affluence . Great place for day trips out to Taormina or Mount Etna.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Peaceful, inexpensive,superb views of Etna
Cons:Off the beaten track
