Rome Things to Do

Things To Do: shopping
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you're in Rome, why not buy that Italian suit. Near the Scala di Spagna there are several tailoring shops where you can buy Italian pure wool suits for as little as 250 euros. Hand stitched and they'll even make any alteration necessary while you get a cup of coffee.

    Trevi Fountain: throw three coins
  • Tip Rating:
  • A visit to the trevi fountain is a must on any Rome itinerary. We always spend a little while here just to take in the atmosphere. The fountain, itself, is spectacular but the crowds are a pain.

    Things To Do: indulgence
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • No trip to Rome(or Italy for that matter)would be complete without a visit to a gelateria.
Rome is full of them and they're generally all good. Every flavour imaginable:
    Chocolate,mocca,strawberry,lemon,pistachio etc.

Vatican Museum & City: catholic head office
  • Tip Rating:
  • As you approach the Vatican City from Rome along the Via Conciliazione, the first impression is the splendour. Opening up onto Piazza San Pietro, you are confronted by St. peters and the Vatican offices left and right. This is a very impressive piazza indeed.
When entering the basilica, it is customary and respectful to be dressed appropriately. Ladies must cover their shoulders(at least) and although allowed, flip flops are not quite the ticket.
On entering, St peters jumps out on you. It is gigantic and breathtaking. The museums are worth a visit but there are usually long queues. The same applies to the Sistine chapel(when its open).

Trajan & Imperial Forums: the Dacian wars
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Trajan's column depicts the wars against Dacia(modern day Rumania)in graphic detail.
This column sits at the corner of Via Dei Fori Imperiali and Foro Traiano. Well worth a look as you leave the forum. It is set back from the main drag but you cant miss it.

    Colosseum: gladiatorial contest
  • Tip Rating:
  • At the bottom of the Palatine lies one of the greatest architectural achievements of all time.
The Colloseum(Amphitheatre of Vespasian). Construction started between 70AD and 72AD and was commissioned by the Emperor Vespasian. Upon his death, the task was continued by his son Titus and was finished in 80AD. It originally housed 50000 spectators who watched games and spectacles right into the 6th century.

Piazza di Spagna - Spanish Steps: lazy dayzzzzzz
  • Tip Rating:
  • Rome Piazza di Spagna - Spanish Steps
  • mel was taking the shot
  • by domenicococozza

  • Just around the corner from the Trevi fountain, its worth taking a trip to the Scala di Spagna
(Spanish Steps). Always crowded with young courting couples just sitting with their arms around each other. Without question, the widest and longest staircase in Europe, this is a great place to just relax and people watch.

    Roman Forum: Forum Magnus
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Roman forum is a big crowd puller. And rightly so - The land was originally a marsh but the Romans drained it to build their political and social centre. Built between the Capitoline and Palatine Hills, the forum rapidly expanded with triumphal arches, temples and a senate house.
The travertine paths, laid in the time of Augustus Caeser, can still be seen today.
