Hotel Olimpia is near Piazzale Roma and very easy to walk to from the bus terminal. It is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at in Venice. Right on a canal, drinks or snacks can be taken outside on the path while you watch the canal traffic gliding by. Although a 3 star hotel,
the service is unquestionably 4 star. Friendly and helpful staff with lots of tips on where to go and what to see. Rooms are beautifully decorated in Venetian style and are spotlessly clean.

Stayed for 3 nights at the hotel kette on at the end of a ski holiday to cortina d'ampezzo.
Left all our ski gear in the left luggage room at Marco Polo Airport and took a very cold trip across the lagoon on the Alilaguna shuttle service.
I would describe the Kette as a minor 4 star hotel(just scraped through from 3 star status).
We did stay in a suite(Kath's birthday)which was very comfortable but the view from our bedroom window was another window across a narrow canal. All that said, the hotel was clean and well managed. There is a stunning marble floor in the reception area and they do have a porterage service and lift. The bar was small but functional.

Hotel Ambasciatori is centrally located in Mestre. Handy for Venice island, this well presented 4 star hotel is a bargain(by Venice standards). We stayed there back in February 2006 and found it comfortable and(just as important) quiet. A short walk to Mestre Station and easily accessed from Marco Polo Airport. The hotel has its own gymnasium, restaurant and bar.

On a recent trip to Venice, we wanted to celebrate an anniversary, so we thought, what the hell - time to let our hair down. We arrived at the Bauer Palazzo Hotel on their private launch
and disembarked right on the Grand Canal. From tht moment, we were totally pampered.
We had a junior suite with faulous virews of the Grand Canal. The staff could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. From breakfast take on the eighth floor roof garden to cocktails on the canal side terrace, a nod at a member of staff was enoug to have someone scuttling to serve us. A fabulous experience.

Unique Qualities: The Bauer Palazzo has so many unique qualities, I wouldn't know where to start.
From bathroom slippers replaced daily to the room being cleaned twice daily. Newspaper outside the suite every morning. Walk in wardrobes(his and hers). Bath robes.
