The Beach/Lake

Sylvan Lake is a beautiful spring fed beach. The town is on the southern shore which has a 2 mile sandy public beach. You can go 100' and only be up to your knees. There is a private marina and waterslide in town. In the summer months the beach is quite busy with tanners, bathers, and boaters. The rest of the lake is surrounded by cottages and farmland.

The town

Originally called snake lake by the indians. Sylvan Lake began as a logging/farming area. It became a popular place to relax at the turn of the century by locals. Until recently, many people considered Sylvan Lake as just a day or weekend getaway. People from the city had summer cottages on or near the lake. In the 1990's more people started choosing to live here permanently. A lot of the cottages have been replaced by homes. Most of he residents work in the oilfield. Lately, it has become popular with retirees from the city. It has 4 golf courses. It currently boasts being one of the fastest growing towns in Canada. The population is about 12,000.
