Cherry Tree Festival in Washington DC

Cherry Trees in Bloom

The Washington Monument in the background
Washington DC, the Capital of the United States, entices visitors with its' beautiful monuments, each one brimming in history. But, when the cherry trees are in bloom, the city is truly at its' finest.
One thing to keep in mind, is that the annual Cherry Tree festival does not always correspond with the actual trees in bloom.
We were fortunate to visit the city when the trees were nearly in full bloom. Two days later, those same trees were engulfed in ice, and the blooms had withered.
World War II Memorial

World War II Memorial

This was the first time that I had seen the WWII memorial. It is strategically located halfway between the Washington Monument (the founder of our freedoms) and the Lincoln Memorial (the defender of our freedoms).
It is quite easy to find, and worth the visit.
Waterfall in the FDR monument

FDR Memorial

This is, by far, the largest memorial in Washington DC. It is located along the basin, which is lined with cherry trees. The monument has a different section for every term that FDR served as president. Just when you thought you'd seen them all, another waterfall presents itself around the corner!
Each waterfall is unique, and there is plenty of room for viewing and enjoying the site.

Pros:"All of the monuments are free to visit"
Cons:"allergic to blossoms? Stay away during the festival!"
In A Nutshell:"History of the country at its' finest."
