We came by bus, and drove past this very welcoming gate to the city of Verona. |
| The arches at the Roman Arena in Verona |
| | Roman Arena This amphitheatre was built around 30 A.D., and is considered to be the 3rd largest. The photo shows the only remaining arches at the top of the arena. There is admission to the arena, for a fee, and one can spend as much time as they like once inside. I climbed the steps to the very top for a breathtaking view of the surroundings. There are bathroom facilities located inside the arena. |
| | Dante I'm going to skip over the"Romeo and Juliet" traditions that Verona is noted for, and mention that Dante actually lived in Verona for about 6 years, while he worked on writing his "Divine Comedy." There is a statue of Dante, in the Piazza where he would have resided. |
