Sometimes known as "the California of the East Coast", Vermont is one of those places where old traditions meet and blend with new-age culture. There are tight-knit rural areas with small farm-houses complete with rocking chairs on the porch and boot-brushes next to the door and the old John Deere in the back near the shed. There are old Inns with victorian features or classic country styling. B&B's abound, each with it's own charm and coziness. Then there are the places that evoke the feeling and atmosphere of the 60's and 70's. The places where people want to feel one with nature and the earth (unfortunately enhanced by the use of an occasional bit of weed). There is a big emphasis on a natural lifestyle and the need to become one with one's spiritual self, through music and through dance, and through working the land and getting down to the basics. Folk music is still very popular, and there are dozens of "pubs" in which one kick back and enjoy Celtic music and Scottish folk songs while drinking a homebrew of some sort.
