I stayed in the Ice Hotel just before Christmas 2005. The Ice Hotel is made every year from the frozen water of Lake Torne situated next to the hotel.

I had high expectations for the place but I must admit I was quite dissapointed. From the outside it is not much to look at and although the suites inside the actual Ice Hotel are wonderful (each individually sculpted by different people every year) the standard rooms are just that - an ice room with matress sunken into a block of ice with reindeer skin on top.

Being a person who loves Christmas I found there was a lack of Christmas spirit here, surprising considering you are in Lappland

Don't go here expecting to see the Aurora Borealis becase it seems the majority of the time it's quite cloudy and snowy. If you do get to see them count your lucky stars ;)
