Shoes off
It is polite to take off your shoes when visiting temples etc... Some places do tell you to take them off. The locals also tend to take off their shoes before going into shops, I wouldn't say this was compulsory, especially around the more touristy areas such as Chaweng and Lamai, but in the quieter villages it's respectful to do the same.
