Roads On The Roads Review

For a small island the traffic is considerably hectic particularly around Chaweng and the other busy towns. There are crossings but generally cars do not stop so you often find yourself dodging in and out. Just be careful especially at night time.

Drugs

Drugs are widely available on Samui, and if you're young there's a high chance of locals approaching you and offering you all sorts, especially on the beach, where they'll slyly show you what they have in their hand. Some of them are thought to be undercover police trying to trap tourists into breaking the law. If you're sensible you'll stay clear, before ending up like Bridget Jones in a Thai prison...

Child genius - Ko Samui
Child genius On The Beach Review

Not so much of a warning or danger really but at night time around the restaurants on the Chewang beach you will get a bunch of local children challenging you to a game of Connect 4 - 100 bahts to play - if you win you'll get 200 bahts. Easy peezy you may think considering the child you are playing is about 6 years old... Not so - they are child genius's!! I don't know how they do it but you will lose every time. I quite enjoyed it and became quite friendly with some of them, but they can harrass you if you let them - just be firm if you don't want to take part.

Monkey men...

You will notice up and down the strip and around the restaurants of the beach, men with either iguanas, snakes or monkeys drapped around their necks and a camera. If you you're not keen on these animals then take a wide berth because if you get too close you could end up getting these animals forced on you to take picture, which of course you will have to pay for. Although the monkeys look quite cute they can bite!
