After the hectic pace of Bangkok I was looking forward to the peace/tranquilty and the warm waters of the Admaman Sea.
We stayed in Ao Nang and it was beautiful but really set up for the package tourists. The food is tamed down for European tastebuds, there are shop after shop of tacky ornaments and knock off designer wear. True that much of Thailand is like this but here it almost feels to clean and sterilised compared to the likes of Samui. It seems more of a family orientated place with not much nightlife. |
| | But if you venture a little further and escape Ao Nang there are other more perfect beaches and the tranquility we were looking for. Just hop on a longtail and explore the islands and nearby beaches. Rai Leh West was my favourite but Ko Poda by far had the best sandy beach. |
| | You have to go out of your way to find the real Thailand in Ao Nang and Krabi. Venture a little further away from the beach and you come face to face with the locals and the Land of Smiles |
