Yogyakarta is one of those places that attracts people for it's locality to Borobudur but it is much more than just a stop over. The people are particularly friendly and despite the number of tourists passing through here you don't get hassled like in many SE Asian countries. You can walk through the market and be relatively hassle free. Yes there is the odd one who will try to lead down the garden path to a batik shop but on the large, they were mostly geniune. It took me a while to get my head around that too. Having travelled quite a lot I am generally weary of anyone freely offering help and advice but the people of Yogyakarta showed me that there still are honest, friendly people out there that will be willing to help you out.
