Copper Culture Mounds State Historic Site

The Copper Culture Mounds State Historic Site is a 48 acre archeological and historical site containing a burial mound from the Copper Age some 5000 to 6000 years ago. It is located near the town of Oconto in eastern Wisconsin. Also on site is the Charles Werrenbroeck Museum which is located in a 1924 farmhouse. This is a nice site and these types of sites fascinate me.

The Burial Mound

The mound is accessible via a short, unpaved but level trail. I found it very interesting to think this mound was built over 5000 years ago. I wondered about the people as I hiked around the area.
