Fillmore and Millard County

Fillmore is a town of about 2300 located in Central Utah. Of particular note is that it was the first capitol of the Utah Territory selected as such in 1851. After some disputes with Ute Indians in the area, the larger city of Salt Lake was selected as the permanent capitol in 1856. Fillmore is the county seat of Millard County. Both the town and the county were named for the 13th president of the United States, Millard Fillmore. I kinda like the Millard County Courthouse.

Territorial Statehouse State Park

The main reason to stop in Fillmore, however, is to visit the Territorial Capitol State Park which preserves the first territorial capitol building. There are a number of interesting displays inside.

Veterans Memorial

There is a nice memorial located on the courthouse grounds dedicated to all members of the U. S. Military especially those who paid the ultimate price.
