Castle Dale and Emery County

Castle Dale is a nice town of about 1600 nestled in Castle Valley, located in Central Utah along Utah Highway 10. Because of the remoteness of the valley it was not settled until the late 1870s. Brigham Young issued a formal order for settlement in 1877 and Castle Dale was born. Castle Dale is the county seat of Emery County which was named after George W. Emery, governor of the territory in 1875. The Emery County Courthouse was designed by the architecture firm of Cannon & Fetzer.

Museum of the San Rafael

This is a very nice museum with a number of dinosaur skeletons, along with displays of wildlife indigenous to the area and the early habitation by man.

Miner's Memorial

There is a nice memorial on the courthouse grounds to Coal Miner's who have lost their lives in the performance of their duties
