Navasota

Navasota is a town of about 7100 (up 5% since 2000) located near Texas Highway 6 in Southeast Texas. Navasota was established in 1831 as a stagecoach stop. The origin of the name is not certain; but may have derived from an Indian word for "Muddy Water". Navasota has a very nice historic district with several buildings of historic and/or architectural interest. The Navasota Commercial District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as are a few of the neat houses in town.

This nice mural celebrates the history and culture of the town.

La Salle

Rene Robert Cavelier Seiur de La Salle, was an explorer of the area along the Mississippi River, a statesman and a nobleman. He was murdered by his own men near Navasota in 1687. Navasota erected a statue in his honor in 1930.
