"Basaic Mason Page" Mason by Basaic

Mason is a nice community of just over 2000 residents located on the Edwards Plateau in the Hill Country of Texas. Mason is near the center of the state. The area was settled in 1846 and the town formed around Fort Mason when it was established in 1851 to protect settlers from warring factions of the Comanche, Kiowa and Lipan Apache Nations. The very attractive Mason County Courthouse you see today, was erected in 1909 by architect E. H. Hosford & Company and uses the Classic Revival style of architecture. This is the latest of a long line of courthouses at this site.

Fort Mason

There are a few nicely restored buildings, and informative signs, of Fort Mason sitting atop a hill overlooking the town. Nice place to stop for a visit.
