Dalhart is a decent sized town of over 7000 located in the panhandle section of Texas near the border with New Mexico and Oklahoma. Dalhart was established in 1901 at the junction of two railroads and was the home of the famous 3 million acre XIT Ranch. Today Dalhart is the county seat of Dallam County and continues to be an important shipping center for cattle, grains, and other agricultural products.

The XIT Ranch consisted of 3,050,000 acres granted by the state to the Capitol Stndicate of Chicago in exchange for them building the state capitol in Austin. There is a museum dedicated to the ranch and the history of the area in Dalhart.
