Somerville and Fayette County

Somerville is a town of about 3100 (up 23% since 2000) located near Interstate 40 in Southwestern Tennessee, not far from Memphis. Somerville was named after Lieutenant Robert Somerville who died in 1814 during the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in Central Alabama. Somerville is the county seat of Fayette County, which was named after Marquis de le Fayette the French hero of the American Revolution. The attractive Fayette County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Somerville Historic Dsitrict

Somerville has a nice historic district centered on the Courthouse Square. The entire district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

There is a nice veterans memorial on the courthouse grounds honoring veterans from Fayette County and the state. It is important to remember the nation's veterans.
