Selmer and McNairy County

Selmer is a town of almost 5000 located in Southwest Tennessee. It is the county seat of McNairy County and was named after the town of Selma, Alabama. It is at the intersection of US Highways 64 and 45. Selmer became the county seat in 1890 when the county government moved here from the town of Purdy.

Selmer Historic District

Selmer has a nice little historic district with a few buildings of historical and/or architectural interest.

Buford Pusser "Walking Tall"

Selmer, and McNairy County are probably best known as the place where Buford Pusser, whose story was told in the "Walking Tall" Movies, served as sheriff from 1964 to 1970. His home is in nearby Adamsville.
