Okemah and Okfuskee County

Okemah is a town of just over 3000 located in Central Oklahoma. Historically it has been the home of several Indian Tribes including: Osage; Quapaw; Creek, and others. Currently Okemah is the headquarters for the Thlopthlocco, part of the Muscogee Tribe. Okemah is named for a Chief of the Kickapoo Tribe. Okemah is the county seat of Okfuskee County and boasts and interesting courthouse with a unique layered look. The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Okemah Historic District

Okemah has a nice historic district with several buildings of Historical and/or architectural interest.

Woody Guthrie

By far, the most famous person to call Okemah home was folk singer Woody Guthrie. There is a nice little park with a statue and a mural of Guthrie located on Broadway (the main street in town).
