Somerset and Perry County

Somerset is a town of about 1500 located along US Highway 22 in Central Ohio. Somerset was settled in 1810 by a group coming from Somerset, Pennsylvania and they brought the name along with them. Somerset was the first county seat of Perry County but the town of New Lexington grew in population and status and contested that decision. The county seat moved a few times and finally settled in New Lexingon. The Old Courthouse dates from about 1929 and was used as the village hall after the county seat moved to New Lexington for good.
