Mullen and Hooker County

Mullen is a nice small town in Central Nebraska with a population of just over 500. It is the county seat of Hooker County and was anmed after Charles D. Mullen, chief clerk for the head of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. I believe the current courthouse was built around 1925.

Mullen Historic District

Mullen has a nice little historic district with a few buildings of historical and/or architectural interest. Most of these are along 1st Street.

Hooker County Museum

The Hooker County Museum is housed in the historic Hamm Hotel in downtown Mullen. The renovated building houses three floors of exhibits. One that I liked the best was the military room and hallway. There are framed photos of local military men and women lining the hallway of the 3rd floor. They also have rooms dedicated to various aspects of early life in the town when it was being settled in 1884.
