Arthur and Arthur County

Arthur is near the panhandle section of Nebraska and has a population of 145 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Arthur County which only has a population of 460 making it the least populace county in Nebraska. Arthur was a neat little town, though and I liked it.

Worlds Smallest Court House

There are two places in Arthur that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of them is the old Arthur County Court House which was used from 1913 to 1961 and is listed by Ripley's Believe it or Not as the world's smallest courthouse. I had the pleasure of touring it with Carolyn the County Treasurer. The Old Jail, located nearby, is listed on the register with the courthouse.

Haybale Church

The other place listed on the National Register of Historic Places is the Pilgrim Holiness Church which was built in 1928 using bales of straw which were then plastered over. It is the only building using this method of construction. Hay was used due to a shortage of other materials in the area.
