Beach and Golden Valley County

Beach is a town of about 1100 (pretty consistent since 2000) located at Exit 1 of Interstate 94 at the intersection with North Dakota Highway 16 in Golden Valley County in Southwest North Dakota. Beach was settled about 1900 and incorporated in 1909. The town was named after Captain Warren G. Beach who led some expeditions to survey the area in the 1880s. Beach is the county seat of Golden Valley County. Golden Valley County was established in 1912 after breaking off from Billings County. It is the 4th least populace county in the state. The Golden Valley County Courthouse was completed in 1923 using the Federal Revival style of architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

North Dakota Welcome Center

As you enter North Dakota from the west on Interstate 94, the first place you see is the town of Beach. Beach was incorporated in 1909 and was named after Captain Warren Beach. It is the county seat for Golden Valley County and had a population of about 1100 in the 2000 Census. The North Dakota Welcome Center on Interstate 94 is located in Beach.

There are several attractions just east of Beach: Theodore Roosevelt National Park (South Unit) (23 miles); the town of Medora with the De Mores State Historic Site (23 miles); and the town of Dickinson (63 miles).
