Greenville and Washington County

Greenville is the third town of that name in Mississippi. The first, established near Natchez, died shortly after the American Revolution. The second was established near here; but was destroyed during the Civil War. The third was founded just after the war. Greenville was named after American Revolutionary War hero Nathaneal Greene. The county was named after George Washington. Greenville has a population of about 35,000 and is located in West Central Mississippi.

Walnut Street Entertainment District

The Walnut Street Entertainment District figured prominently in the history of the development of the blues in the 40s and 50s. Today there are still a number of nice blues clubs in the area.
