The town of Granite Falls is in three different counties: Chippewa, Renville and Yellow Medicine. It is the county seat of Yellow Medicine County and has a population of just under 3000. Granite Falls is in Southwest Minnesota near South Dakota. Yellow Medicine County is named for the Sioux name of a plant seed that is used for medicinal purposes. The Yellow Medicine County Courthouse was constructed in 1889 by architect Frederick Hoover. Frankly, it looks kinda like a warehouse to me.

Yellow Medicine County Museum

The Yellow Medicine County Museum hosts pioneer and Indian related displays, along with bones and fossils. There are outdoor displays showing a pioneer home, a general store, and a church on site. There are also some of the oldest exposed rocks in the world here 3.8 billion years old.
