"Basaic Jean Lafitte Page" Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Reserve by Basaic

Jean Lafitte National Historic Park

While the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park is headquartered in New Orleans; there are six separate sites for the park:

•Acadian Cultural Center - Lafayette
•Prairie Acadian Cultural Center - Eunice
•Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center - Thibodaux
•Barataria Preserve - Marrero
•Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery - Chalmette
•French Quarter Visitor Center - New Orleans

I have only been to one, the Acadian Cultural Center. I plan to visit more of the sites next time I am in Louisiana.

The Museum

Inside the cultural center is a very nice museum that covers many aspects of the Acadian Culture. Also nearby is Vermillionville (see my Lafayette Page). Vermillionville is what Lafayette was originally called and this site has a number of original and recreated houses, buildings and many other items relating to the Acadian Culture. It is truly a living museum.

Beaver Park

The Acadian Cultural Center is located in what used to be Beaver Park. The landscaping is very nice.
