Crowley and Acadia Parish

Crowley is a decent sized town of about 13,000 (down 7% since 2000) located at the intersection of Interstate 10 (Exits 80 and 82) with U.S. Highway 90 and various Louisiana Highways. Crowley was established by the Duson Brothers in 1886 and incorporated the following year. Crowley was named for Pat Crowley and Irishman who helped establish a railroad depot here. Crowley has long been an important place for rice growing and production and has been called the "Rice Capitol of America". Crowley has an annual International Rice Festival in October. Crawfish is an increasingly important industry here. Crowley is the parish seat of Acadia Parish which was established in 1886 and was named for the French Colony of Acadia in Canada.
