Kokomo and Howard County

Kokomo is the 13th largest city in Indiana and is the county seat of Howard County. It is just North of the center of the state and has a population of over 45,000. The name Kokomo comes from a legendary character of the Miami Indians. Kokomo translates to "Black Walnut". The town was incorporated in 1865. A large number of firsts occured in Kokomo relating to the Auto Industry, Foods, and other industries. The county is named for General Tilghman Ashurst Howard.

Historic District

Kokomo has a nice historic district with a number of buildings of historical and/or architectural interest.

Civil War Veterans Memorial

There is also a Veterans Memorial near the courthouse which honors Union Veterans of the Civil War.
