Anderson is the county seat of Madison County and is located just east of the center of the state. Anderson has a population of about 60,000. Anderson started as a Delaware Indian Village and was named after Chief William Anderson. Anderson the town was started in 1827.
There are several buildings of historic and architectural interest in the Anderson Historic District. Primary amongst these are the Paramount Theater and the Gruenewald Historic House.
Anderson also had a Carnegie Library built here that has been converted into the Anderson Fine Arts Center.
