Hamburg Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 9 photos

Hamburg is a town of about 1100 (down 8% since 2000) located along US Highway 275, and near Interstate 29, in Fremont County in Southwestern Iowa, not far from the borders with Nebraska and Missouri. Hamburg was laid out in 1857 although it was founded by German settlers years earlier. The town was named after Hamburg, Germany (a place I have also visited). The settlers thought they were settling in Missouri but an 1846 survey showed they were in Iowa.

Hamburg Historic District

Hamburg has a very nice little historic district with several buildings of historical and/or architectural interest. Friendly little town too. The Hamburg Public Library is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Heritage Hall

Hamburg also has a very nice historical museum in the Heritage Hall.
