Dalton and Whitfield County

Dalton is a decent sized city of over 33,000 located in Northwest Georgia not far from the Tennessee Border. It is the second largest city in this part of Georgia after Rome, and is the county seat of Whitfield County. The area was first settled by Creek Indians, who were displaced by the Cherokee, who were in turn displaced during the infamous "Trail of Tears". There are a number of floor covering businesses here along with several historic homes. The Whitfield County Courthouse, however, is not one of them. For a modern courthouse though it looks pretty nice, though.

Historic Old Depot

One of the more interesting historic buildings is the old Western & Atlantic Railroad Station. The "Great Locomotive Chase" during the Civil War passed by here.

General Joseph Johnston

There is a statuwe of General Joseph Johnston located in downtown Dalton. He was one of the commanders at the First Battle of Dalton during the Civil War.
