Cairo and Grady County

Cairo (pronounced Kay-Row) is a small town in Southwest Georgia between Thomasville and Bainbridge. It is located on US Highway 84 and has a population of about 10,000. It is the county seat of Grady County. The Grady County Court House looks old but was actually built in 1985 using the Classical Revival style of architecture. It replaced another court house that was destroyed by fire. Prior to its destruction the old court house was nominated for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.

Famous people from here include Jackie Robinson the first black major leaguer and Mickey Thomas lead singer for Jefferson Starship.
