Past and Present of Tujunga

Tujunga derives it's name from the Tongva Indians who originally settled in the area. In 1907 M.V. Hartranft founded a utopian colony in Tujunga based on the principles of the Utopianist cooperative farm movement, led by William Ellsworth Smythe. The people who settled here were called "little landers" for their philosophy of "a little land and a lot of living". A community center built from local river rock, and named Bolton Hall after author Bolton Hall, was dedicated in August 1913, and is today an historical monument and museum operated by the Little Landers Historical Society. Tujunga was annexed by the City of Los Angeles in 1932.

Unique Houses

Tujunga has quite a number of unique houses, like the one in the photo, and hosts tours of the city and the houses. Tujunga has a lot of artist types and is an interesting town.
