La Quinta

La Quinta is a small city of about 38,000 (up a huge 58% since 2000) located in the southern end of the Coachella Valley in a pocket surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains. Neighboring cities include more famous names like Palm Desert and Palm Springs. A couple of the people I talked to in Palm Springs refered to La Quinta as a "low rent district" and maybe it is for the area; but it was hard to see. Looked pretty neat to me.

Old Town

La Quinta was only incorporated in 1982; but don't let that fool you. The area was popular well before that as a golfing and resort destination for many of Hollywoods most famous. There is an interesting "Old Town" area with many fine shops and restaurants. There are also frequent art fairs here.

La Quinta Park

the city facilities are scattered around a very nice park area called the Civic Center Campus. there are many statues in the park too. This is a great place to take a leisurely walk and relax.
