The Lagoon Area

The Humboldt Lagoons State Park area was drained in the early 1900s to serve as farmland but none of the crops grew well enough to be economically adviseable. Then they tried to establish several dairy farms; but those too failed. Then they established a motel-restaurant called the "Little Red Hen" next to the lagoon. This business continued in operation until 1979. Now the area has been restored to a marshland habitat.

The Beach

At the beach you can enjoy beachcombing, bird watching, whale watching, agate hunting, and the three mile Coastal Trail.
