Chandler, the City

Chandler is a city of about 240,000 located in the East Valley; just east of Phoenix. Like most places in the valley the population here has exploded since 1950. Chandler was established in 1912 and was named after Dr. A. J. Chandler, who helped found the town, was the first veterinarian in Arizona and helped design and build the irrigation system that helped farmers in the area.

A. J. Chandler Park

Dr. A. J. Chandler Park straddles ArizonaAvenue between Buffalo Street and Boston Streetthrough the main part of Old Town Chandler. The park is a nice place to relax and has long been the social gathering place for old town.

Old Town Chandler

Old Town Chandler runs mainly along Boston Street, Arizona Avenue and San Marcos Place. The entire old town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It's good that the Historical Society keeps track of those old buildings -- who built them and what they were originally used for.

Chandler does a much better job of this that many other cities. I was impressed with them. Thanks for the visit and comment (and ratings).
