"The Wilderness of Western NC" Pisgah Forest by HasTowelWillTravel

Hidden Oases in the Mountains

The Pisgah National Forest is a beautiful reserve in western North Carolina. It holds a number of trails winding through the mixed forests of the Carolinas, traipsing across ravines and through the woods. Pisgah is a National Forest, which means it has fewer amenities than other recreation areas (like Great Smoky NP), but it more than makes up for this in terms of fewer people and a wilder experience. If you're looking to do some hiking and backpacking, this is the place for you.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Fewer people, more wild
  • Cons:Rugged, primitive facilities (if present)
  • In a nutshell:Scenery with a more wild side
