The lakeshore of northern Michigan has a tremendous coastline, and the area to the east has remarkable sand dunes. Emerging from the forests of the northern US, these few dunes jut into the aqua blue of the lake, seeming like a sliver of Caribbean coast transplanted very far north (though a dip into the water will tell you exactly where you are). With a historic marine town built to help the steamships across the Great kaes region, there is plenty to discover about Sleeping Bear Dunes.
