Great introduction to Guatemala I, like so many travelers, started my journey through Guatemala via Antigua. It was really the first city I saw and experienced as a traveler into this wonderful country. Antigua sits in this lush valley, nestled near 3 active volcanoes. I find it to be a beautiful city, full of charm and delightful aspects. The city is ensconced in colonial architecture, having been the center of the country since the 18th century.
It is also an extremely fertile area, generating most of the avocados in the country. In fact, people from Antigua are referred to by other Guatemalans as 'green bellies' due to the number of avocados made and eaten there.
From the cuisine, to the shopping, to the local adventure tours, there is much to offer in Antigua. |

hindu1936 Fri Apr 17, 2009 04:50 UTC good tips here. too often, people forget to relate the bad experiences and others get nailed in the same place. Thanks for sharing | Hopkid Mon Mar 3, 2008 03:27 UTC Nice page, Josh! I had the same experience with E. Bell tours but had a different guide who sounded better than Ms. Bell herself but still the tour was less than we had expected. |
